Red Burgundy ’16 & ’15: Superb Vintages, Different Styles (Jan 2018)

Dark red with ruby tones. Slightly porty aromas of plum, dark raspberry and spices; just this side of too much. Sweet and plush on the palate, with its red and darker fruit flavors complicated by spices and earth. Every bit as accessible as the Côte de Nuits-Villages today owing to its smooth tannins, but this wine has more stuffing. Incidentally, all of the Bachelet ’15s were bottled with between 12.5% and 13% alcohol, following a bit of chaptalization to prolong their fermentations.
