2012 & 2013 Napa Valley: Too Close to Call (May 2024)

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is a dense, potent wine that is just beginning to show the first signs of aromatic openness. I would cellar this for a few more years, as the tannins are still pretty imposing. Black cherry, gravel, licorice, game and incense power through to the imposing finish. This is a seriously great old-school wine; it just needs time to soften. Give this a ton of air if you’re going to open it now.
