The 2001 Red Burgundies at Age 15 (Apr 2017)

Healthy medium red. Musky wild raspberry, coffee and Cuban cigar tobacco on the nose and palate. Suave and velvety but with terrific energy and retention of red fruit flavor. The tobacco element is quite apparent in the mouth. Nicely integrated acidity and tannins accentuate the wine’s smoothness and give it sex appeal. Jeremy Seysses noted that the estate did more destemming of the fruit in 2001 than in most vintages but that the whole-cluster element rounded things off.
