New Releases from Southern Italy (Mar 2011)

Good, full ruby-red. Some superripe notes of roasted redcurrant and balsamic plum on the nose are nicely lifted by sour red cherry and a light floral element. Creamy and sweet, with sound acids giving freshness to the very rich, almost liqueur-like red fruit flavors. The wine’s firm tannins and acids have not yet harmonized, giving the finish a slight youthful dryness and a bitter edge, but there’s so much creamy fruit underneath that this wine should outlive the tannins.
