A Century of…Fours (Jun 2024)

The 1994 Beychevelle is one of the surprise packages of this almost forgotten vintage. It has a light bouquet with blackberry, iodine and cedar scents—simple but effective. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy texture and fine acidity. There is an almost pastille-like purity to this Saint-Julien, pretty and winsome, plus it gains depth with aeration. Who knew? It’s worth seeking out. Tasted at the château.
