Survive Us All: Latour 1858-2018 (Feb 2024)

The 1945 Latour is an outstanding Pauillac, though personally, I have never placed it within the top tier of wines from this First Growth. As usual, that trademark whiff of wild mint wafts from the glass, matched by cedar and cassis aromas. A touch of sandalwood emerges a few minutes in the glass. Potent and concentrated, you could quibble and say that it is a bit uncouth compared to some of the elite 1945 Left Banks, though how can you not fall for its bewitching precocity and joie-de-vivre on the finish. Magnificent. Tasted at Arbor restaurant in Hong Kong.
