Vertical Tasting of Domaine de Chevalier Rouge (Apr 2013)

(a blend of 65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot and 5% cabernet franc; 13% alcohol): Bright medium red. Reticent aromas of cassis, dark cherry and pungent, resiny oak. Juicy and penetrating, with firm acidity giving clarity to the cassis, mint and herb flavors. Finishes with light, dusty tannins and good persistence, if a bit monolithic and simple. This has improved slightly from the early years, when I doubted it would ever make it beyond the 86-87 range.
