Burgundy With A Bit of Age: 2000-2014 (May 2019)

The 2002 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is a wine that I have not tasted since it was bottled. Here it is noticeably deep in colour. It is bestowed with a fragrant bouquet of red berry fruit, tangerine, freshly tilled soil and a touch of mushroom, all very elegant and refined. Conversely, the palate is quite stocky and dense, firm and grippy. A Clos Vougeot determined to make an impression but lacking the finesse one would have expected. Fortunately it does improve in the glass and I suspect that had I left it another hour it would have meliorated further. Decanting is advised. Tasted blind at Philippe’s Xmas lunch.
