Napa Valley’s Thrilling 2018s & 2019s, Parts 1 & 2 (Jan 2021)

What a thrill it is to revisit the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, a wine that has delivered on all the potential I sensed back when I first tasted it from barrel nearly a decade ago. Time flies. In the glass, the 2010 is dark, heady and rich, with striking aromatic nuance and tons of complexity. Unctuous dark fruit, grilled herbs, cloves and licorice build into the intense, exotic finish. It is a classic Philip Togni wine at its first plateau of maturity. In 2010 the harvest took place entirely in October. Because of the cold growing season, the crop was thinned significantly in order to allow for the fruit to ripen. Yields were down approximately 50%.
