White-on-White: Porseleinberg 2010-2020 (Nov 2023)

The 2013 Porseleinberg marks the first vintage to include fruit from new plantings, around 30% of the blend. It was matured for 24 months in 60% foudres and 40% concrete eggs. This has a lively bouquet, more open with raspberry coulis, terracotta and white pepper, beautifully defined and becoming more succinct as it evolves in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky smooth texture. Perfectly pitched acidity imparts wonderful tension. Quite floral in style, with touches of white pepper and clove. There’s plenty of energy with a very finessed finish. Callie Louw described this as the most “old school” Porseleinberg, and I am inclined to agree.
