Intellect & Senses: Bordeaux With Time (Mar 2025)

The 2000 Trotanoy has a deeper hue than the 1996 and 1997 served alongside, as you would expect. This has an intense nose, with menthol-tinged black fruit, good definition and a touch of hung game that ebbs away to reveal more melted tar aromas. There is a little more VA than I would like. The palate is medium-bodied with layered sweet black licorice-tinged fruit. This builds nicely in the glass with hints of cassis and espresso on the finish. The 2000 does not have the natural “fluidity” of a great Trotanoy, but it should give another decade of drinking pleasure. Tasted at the Pomerol dinner at Cornus in London.
