Balloons, Mermaids & Margaux: Château Giscours 1938-2023 (Apr 2025)

The 1999 Giscours doesn’t quite have the complexity of the ’98 on the nose, showing only blackberry, cedar and just a touch of pressed violet. It just doesn’t have quite the same degree of intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with mocha and leather on the entry. It’s quite fleshy in style but doesn’t give you the complexity of a great Giscours. Given the season, this is not a bad wine by any measure, though the 1998 is better.
