2012 Red Burgundies (Jan 2014)

(from ten different origins, including some premier crus; partly from grapes vinified by growers under Drouhin’s supervision): Pale cherry-red color; seemed to grow darker with air. Musky aromas of blackberry, licorice, earth and rose petal. Juicy, spicy red berry flavors hint at exotic fruits. Saline and a bit tight today, even slightly dry, but finishes with high-pitched spices and good spine. In a lean but elegant style.
