Herding Cats: Burgfest 2020 – The Reds (Oct 2024)

The 2020 Grands-Echézeaux Grand Cru takes time to unfold on the nose. It’s a little more introverted, with darker fruit, a touch of reduction, raspberry, bergamot and light rooibos scents developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, more fruit concentration than d’Eugénie’s Grands-Echézeaux, and a rounded texture. Cinnamon and allspice traces appear towards the tarry yet delineated finish. There is real persistence here—superb. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
