2011 Bordeaux: Dry Whites (Aug 2012)

(a blend of 58% semillon and 42% sauvignon blanc): Bright straw-yellow. Captivating nose combines ripe pear, white peach, gooseberry and ripe citrus scents. Enters the mouth very rich and creamy, with surprisingly dense flavors of tropical fruit, ripe citrus and peach. Finishes brooding, tannic and long, with a noticeable saline tang. This will need plenty of time to show all it’s got. A very thick, rich style of Haut-Brion Blanc that is also softer and creamier than many past vintages. In fact, it almost tasted like it had undergone at least partial malolactic fermentation, which Masclef denied. He feels that the tannic finish is due to the small, thick-skinned berries.
