Domaine Hubert Lignier Clos de la Roche 1974-2010 (Feb 2021)

Deep in colour, the 1986 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has quite a high-toned and powerful nose. Scents of inkwell and iodine emerge, not elegant but there is a decent amount of fruit here. The palate is well balanced, medium-bodied with more supple tannins than the nose implies, a touch of volatile acidity with a tertiary finish. This is impressive in terms of concentration and I noticed how it meliorated in the glass, developing a lovely soy-tinged tincture with time. Impressive.
