Constance Craving: Vin de Constance 1992-2017 (Sep 2020)

The 1996 Vin de Constance has a lower level of residual sugar at 112g/L. It was one of the early releases after the resurrection of Klein Constantia. Now deep amber in color, it does not possess the complexity of more recent vintages, but seems fully mature, presenting burnt honey, mandarin and swimming pool aromas, the latter a trait I often discern on mature Barsac. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine line of acidity. This is not going to improve, but it has retained a sense of cohesion after 24 years. The tangy, marmalade-infused finish is straight to the point. Drink soon.
