(aged for three years in new French barriques Glass-staining ruby. A deep but initially impenetrable black hole of a nose opens slowly to reveal a surreal bouquet of Asian-spiced boysenberry, black raspberry, candied cherry, potpourri and dusty minerals. Then surprisingly graceful on the palate, offering suave red and dark berry flavors, tangy mineral lift and grip, and silky tannins. Finishes with palate-staining anise and mocha notes. This is more about spine and structure than sheer power, and it’s still a baby.
