A Century of…Fives (Jun 2025)

The 1985 Palmer replicates the bottle poured at the vertical a couple of years earlier. It has a very fragrant, quintessentially Margaux-like bouquet with redcurrant, raspberry, cedar and rosemary sporting fine delineation and vigour. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. There is a brightness to this Palmer that I really appreciate, making this a less concentrated yet more transparent wine with elegance from start to finish. That tincture of Earl Grey just pops its head around the corner to say “Hello” after 30 minutes. Wonderful. Tasted at the 1985 dinner at Noble Rot Mayfair.
