Veneto: A Constant State of Evolution (Feb 2024)

The 2012 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Sant’Urbano is coy yet remarkably pretty. Swirling unlocks depths of crushed cloves and black cherries, complemented by a flourish of sweet rose. This is silky smooth with fresh acidity, contrasted by tart wild berry fruits and a crushed violet candy concentration. The 2012 tapers off with a pleasantly bitter tinge that curls the tongue as hints of cinnamon and dark chocolate fade over a bed of fine tannins. Now at 11 years old, the 2012 is just coming into its own.
