Caught Somewhere in Time: Clos de Tart 1887-2016 (Feb 2019)

The 2000 Clos de Tart Grand Cru was picked from September 18 with surprisingly high alcohol: 14.0° to 14.8°. It has a comparatively light bouquet, quite precise but missing the substance expected of a vineyard of this stature. There is a pleasant airy nature here. The palate is light-hearted with vivacious red fruit, not as fleshy as it showed during its youth and relatively straightforward compared to the 2002. Yet I enjoy the pepperiness on the finish, and I like this millennial offering almost as much as the 1999. Tasted at a private Clos de Tart dinner in London.
