Archive Away: Mature Burgundies 1919-2019 (Jun 2024)

The 2016 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Blanc Grand Cru is a vintage I have not tasted since it was in barrel. It has a powerful bouquet that demands attention. With plenty of extracts, it’s almost Alsace-like with wet wool, lanolin and white chocolate notes. It is utterly engaging. The palate is well-balanced with an almost Chenin-like quality. Spicier than other vintages I have tasted, it fans out wonderfully on the finish and seems to linger in the mouth. Very impressive.
