Variations on a Theme: Burgundy 2020 Whites (Jul 2024)

The 2020 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru has conspicuous sulfur veiling the nose, which over-shadows the fruit profile and terroir expression. (Decanting from glass to glass does remove some of this sulfur, though not entirely.) It just needs time. The palate is well-balanced with a fresh opening, acceptable weight and depth, lightly spiced with white pepper, touches of kiwi fruit and nettle towards the finish. It is difficult to pin this En Remilly down. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
