A Century of…Sixes: 1846-2016

The 2006 Pichon Baron is a vintage that I have not encountered for several years. This has a bright, lively bouquet that feels a little fresher than some of its peers, with blackberry, cedar, a touch of leather and (yet again) a hint of peppermint, though this is less pronounced than in other Left Bank wines from this vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with edgy tannins. It feels a little rustic compared to other vintages, but there is plenty of freshness and sapidity with just a bit of chewiness on the finish. Drink now.
