Champagne: The 2026 Spring Preview

The 2015 Cristal Rosé is fine, briskly cut and very young. Chalk, mint, white pepper, rose petal and brisk saline notes are so vivid in the glass. The style is one of youthful, classical austerity, perhaps because of the lower dosage Chef de Caves Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon favors these days. Even so, I find the Rosé just a touch more complete than the Blanc in 2015. The blend is 56% Pinot Noir from Bonotte Pierre Robert (Aÿ) and 44% Chardonnay from Montmartin (Mesnil-sur-Oger) and Pierre Vaudon (Avize). Dosage is 7 grams per liter. Disgorged: 2022.
