The Glorious 1999 Red Burgundies (Mar 2018)

Good full red. Old-school, rather claret-like aromas of redcurrant, tarte au mirabelle, coffee, mocha, mint and menthol. At once firm and silky; not hard but not hugely ripe or concentrated either. (Faiveley was doing longer cuvaison and more energetic extraction in 1999.) Not sweet or particularly fruity or expansive but still full of life, with the menthol quality giving the middle palate a juicy character. The slightly gritty tannins turn dustier with air, reaching the front teeth.
