The 2001 Red Burgundies at Age 15 (Apr 2017)

(aged in 100% new oak): Dark medium red. Explosive aromas of blackberry liqueur, black cherry and mocha. Plush, sweet and generous on the palate, showing lovely balance to its flavors of wild raspberry, plum, crushed rock, smoke and spices. As round and full as this is, there’s still a fresh, crunchy quality to its fruit. Finishes ripely tannic and long. A great showing, although further aging will bring mellower truffle and underbrush notes. Arnaud Mortet noted that his late father Denis carried out a severe green harvest in 2001, adding that he has always considered 2001 to be one of his father’s best vintages.
