Domaine Georges Roumier Part 2: Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru (Nov 2022)

The 2002 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru is a wonderful wine that is probably reaching its peak at two decades old. Wonderful transparency (one of the leitmotifs of the vintage) with crystalline red fruit that seems so vivid, with very subtle undergrowth notes in the background. The palate is beautifully balanced with a fine spine of acidity, hints of crustacea towards the delineated finish. This is the finest bottle that I have encountered, and it is difficult to resist at the moment. Will it get even better? I don’t think so. Tasted blind at the Roumier Les Cras vertical at Medlar, London.
