Long Distance Runner: Brane-Cantenac 1924-2015 (Jan 2019)

The 1970 Brane-Cantenac was picked September 24 to October 8 and is a vintage that I have not encountered before. It actually does not match up to the 1971. The nose is a little dilute and hollow, tertiary in style and lacking vigor. The palate is better: balanced and quite fresh, offering fine acidity, tart, dusty black fruit and a touch of dried orange peel on the finish. If only the nose was better. I wonder if there are better examples out there. Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the château.
