Bordeaux 2013: Definitely Not the Vintage of the Century (May 2014)

Bright, deep red-ruby. Blackcurrant, raspberry, licorice and violet on the nose. Juicy, pure and nicely delineated, with fine-grained, extremely primary dark berry, violet and licorice flavors that mount slowly and build well through the persistent finish. The smooth tannins arrive late. Though not especially concentrated or deep, this wine strikes me as having better balance than many 2013s, with enough aromatic lift and fruit to stand up to its tannins. Will offer plenty of early appeal.
