Best New Releases from Australia (Jul 1999)

Deep ruby. Port-like aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, dark chocolate, cigar box, leather, minerals, cedar and herbs; became fresher and more perfumed with aeration. Powerful and penetrating; the thick, extremely concentrated fruit seems as deep as it is wide. From vines reportedly 130 years of age! Finishes with explosive fruit that coats the entire palate. Perhaps the longest Australian wine I’ve tasted this year. Can be tasted now, but really should be cellared for eight or ten years.
