Through the Other Side: Burgundy 2016 in Bottle (Oct 2019)

The 2016 Vosne-Romanée En Orveau 1er Cru is noticeably deeper in colour than its peers. The bouquet is more opaque and distant, demands more coaxing from the glass: dark plum, hints of oyster shell and a soupçon of blueberry. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. There is firm backbone here – not rigid – but certainly not pliant at the moment, though bottle age will mellow this in time. Good potential, but serious and cerebral. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.
