A Century of Bordeaux: The Nines (Sep 2019)

The 1999 Beychevelle is a vintage that I have not encountered for some time. It has a simple nose of brambly red fruit, leather and the espresso note that I observed in previous vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with rustic tannin. This feels a little hard and pinched in the mouth, and the rustic, ferrous finish shortchanges you in terms of length. The 1999 should be consumed in the near future. Far better wines are being made by the château nowadays. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at the estate.
