1982 Bordeaux, 20 Years On (Jul 2002)

Full medium red. Raspberry, iron, coffee and truffle on the nose, along with an intriguing autumnal quality. At once silky and vinous, with slightly edgy acidity and noteworthy class. Finishes firmly tannic and extremely long, with a slightly bitter edge. 92. My second bottle was distinctly stronger: Bright full red. A coulis of raspberry and cherry on the nose. Juicy and penetrating in the mouth, with superb clarity and structure and lovely restrained sweetness. A subtle floral quality adds complexity. Comes across as firmer and classier than most top right-bank ’82s, and actually tightened up in the glass, showing more structure. Perhaps the best bottle I’ve yet tasted of this wine. Drink 2005 to 2020.
