Beringer’s Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon: One of Napa Valley’s First Cult Wines (Jul 2015)

(14.5% alcohol; 5% Chabot, 21% State Lane, 14% St. Helena, 57% Bancroft and 3% Cabernet Franc): Good full, dark red. Red berries, menthol and mint on the nose, plus a slightly evolved balsamic note; clearly less ripe than the 1991 bottling. Supple, sweet and easygoing, offering flavors of red berries and plum jam. Fat and attractive but without the spine of the most important vintages. Finishes plush and persistent, with dusty tannins.
