Myth Over Matter: Mature Burgundy 1920-2019 (Mar 2023)

The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru is just superb. Fabulous nose, very mineral-driven and delineated with perhaps more complexity than the Fourrier CSJ tasted in tandem. The palate is defined by its caressing tannins, which are very pure and has a symmetry that makes it feel weightless. Yet paradoxically, there is real weight to this Clos Saint-Jacques, and there is a wonderful peacock’s tail on the finish. At its peak but will continue to flourish. Tasted at the Southwold Burgundy dinner at Hatched restaurant.
