Alsace 2012s and Early-Released 2013s (Apr 2015)

Golden yellow; much darker than the Hengst. Very deep aromas of smoked pork, papaya, grilled pineapple, toffee and Bourbon vanilla. Rich and chewy in the mouth, with dominant flavors of tropical fruits and smoke. Finishes oily, saline and very long. You can almost smell and taste the Rangen’s volcanic ash here. This powerful wine borders on overripe but has enough acidity to keep it dancing on the palate. Still, I would have liked a little more lift.
