Burgundy With A Bit of Age: 2000-2014 (May 2019)

The 2005 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is surprisingly deep in colour, though fear not, there is no sign of premature oxidation. The nose offers sea spray, walnut and egg shell aromas that are nicely defined and carry a subtle reduction. The palate is tangy on the entry, quite edgy with impressive weight, hints of custard creams towards the quasi-Rhône-like finish that made me ponder white Châteauneuf-du-Pape! Still, this is showing well and just damn delicious. Tasted blind at Philippe’s Xmas lunch.
