Focus on California’s North Coast (May 2012)

(a 60/40 blend of merlot and cabernet sauvignon): Bright red-ruby. Aromas of blackberry, violet and bitter chocolate complemented by a touch of soil. Intensely flavored and juicy, with good floral lift to the blackberry and cassis fruit flavors. Strong smoky minerality, licorice and subtle herbs give this a distinctly Old World mien. Still a bit bound-up today but should expand nicely with a few years in bottle. Good tight, energetic 2007.
