Focus on Barolo and Barbaresco (Nov 2011)

(from a steep, southwest-facing slope; aged half in large casks and half in tonneaux, 15% new): Good deep red. Blackcurrant, tobacco, tar, spices, cedar and licorice on the deep nose and palate. Suave on entry, then deep, sweet and impressively concentrated, with complementary oakiness. A large-scaled Barolo whose major tannins remain round and pliant, perhaps due to the aeration that takes place in the tonneaux.
