Growing Up ‘n Getting Wiser: South Africa in 2022 (Sep 2022)

The 2015 Vergelegen V is aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak. This has a backward bouquet, surprising for a 2015, unfurling with blackberry, melted tar and mint. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, nice acidity; the 2021 is tight and muscular towards the finish with just a hint of brine lingering on the aftertaste. Needs another couple of years in bottle.
