Mother & Child: La Lagune 1962 – 2015 (Apr 2018)

The 2012 La Lagune has a perfumed, lifted bouquet that is much more dynamic and floral than the 2011: black cherries, raspberry preserve, crushed violet and a touch of iodine. There is a lot going on here! The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine thread of acidity, plenty of spice-tinged red fruit that feels deftly integrated with the oak. It gently fans out towards the second half with impressive composure. This does not have to do too much to impress and the result is a La Lagune imbued with drinkability even at this early stage. Personally, I would afford it another five years in bottle, but I would not blame anyone for broaching this now. Tasted at the La Lagune vertical at the château.
