1997 and 1996 Red Burgundies (Mar 1999)

Saturated ruby. Aromas of wild crushed blackberry, licorice and toasty oak. Great sweetness on entry, then tough and closed, bound up by its acids. The tannins seem thicker, hitting the palate earlier and covering the entire tongue, making this wine quite severe now. But this appears to possess the strongest material of Mortet’s ’96 village wines from Gevrey.
