Back to Burgfest: 2017 Reds – Blind (Jan 2022)

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St-Jacques 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of beautifully integrated oak, but a very strong licorice scent rather dominates the aromatics upon returning 10 minutes later. The palate is well balanced with crunchy red berry fruit, quite energetic and tensile, displaying satisfying purity and poise toward the sweet and candied, rounded finish. All it needs is a little more length. I’m not sure how representative this bottle was and so I will refrain from scoring. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.
