Enigma Variations: Lafleur 1955-2015 (Nov 2018)

The 1982 Lafleur is a wine that I tasted several times, always flirting and sometimes reaching perfection. This bottle has a bit of stage fright but came together brilliantly in the glass. There is that very intense, Cabernet Franc driven bouquet that has a crystalline beauty all of its own, gradually unfurling to reveal hints of meat juices and gravel. The palate is wonderfully balanced with a perfect line of acidity, amazing focus and fathomless depth. It seems to shimmer with energy. You have to stand back and admire its structure and the persistence on the finish. It is an awesome wine made by no less than Christian Moueix and Jean-Claude Berrouet. Tasted at the “International Wine & Business” Lafleur dinner at Ten Trinity, London.
