The Wines of Southern Italy (Mar 2014)

(14% alcohol): Dark ruby-red. Aromas of black cherry, minerals and flowers are complicated by hints of capers and thyme on the captivating nose. Suave, sweet and fine-grained, with enticing suggestions of tobacco, dried flowers and fresh herbs. Very broad and lush yet somehow airy, this wine conveys a lovely light touch for what is usually a more pungently herbal wine. Finishes with broad tannins and lovely spicy lift. Made from 35-year-old vines on slightly calcareous soil, this may well be the best Nerobaronj vintage to date.
