2008 Red Burgundies (Mar 2011)

(this was Lafon’s only vineyard without hail in 2008): Good medium red. Spicy raspberry and a sweet hint of chocolate on the nose. Spicy and tight, with lovely acid cut and energy to the crunchy red fruit flavors. Finishes with firm but ripe tannins and good length. Lafon notes that a good portion of these vines were replanted in 1986, and that the wine has improved in the last five years. He’s also doing less punching down of the cap to avoid getting rough tannins. A very good showing.
