1998, 1997 and 1996 Bordeaux (May 1999)

Deep ruby-red. Cassis, black olive, menthol and smoke on the nose. Rather unforthcoming in the middle palate today. In a distinctly drier style despite showing a ripe note of chocolate. Good but not outstanding flavor intensity. The tannins and acids seem a bit tough, even compared to the ’98. Perhaps simply going through a sullen stage. But the ’98 is more graceful.
