1999 and 1998 Rhone Valley Wines (Jan 2001)

Moderately saturated ruby. Aromatically pure aromas of raspberry, pepper, woodsmoke and brown spices. Thick and sweet, with flavors similar to the aromas. Finishes with very fine but substantial tannins that are nicely buffered by the wine material. Long and spicy on the aftertaste. The yield here was about 35 hectoliters per hectare, vs. a solid 40 in ’99.
