2002 and 2001 Red Burgundies (Mar 2004)

Medium red. The ripest nose of these 2001s: maraschino cherry, redcurrant, rose petal, chocolate, smoke and marzipan. Very sweet, round and rich, with a layered mouth feel. But this deep, fresh wine is also youthfully backward and a bit medicinal today. Finishes with substantial sweet tannins and excellent persistence. This will need at least seven or eight years to reach its peak.
